Hello :D
Thank you for visiting my website/blog!
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Alexis, or you can call me Sully if you like. In May 2014, I received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Richard Stockton College of NJ (now Stockton University) with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I began graduate school in the Biology Ph.D. program at the Pennsylvania State University in August 2014, and on October 9, 2020 I successfully defended my dissertation! You may now call me Dr. Sullivan :D I'm currently the Laboratory Supervisor for Dr. Jonas Schluter's RAtional Microbiome ENgineering (RAMEN) Labs at the Institute for Systems Genetics in NYU Langone Health.
I grew up with a deep love of science, especially all things biology, and I wish to share and spread that love as much as I can. As such, the section that will likely get the most attention on here will be Research. I also would like to serve as an indirect guide for anyone who might eventually pursue a graduate degree. I've broken that goal into two parts, Sci Comm and Life, with the hope that 1) you can get an inside look at the lives of those in academia (from undergrad to PI thanks to my Sully Asks A Scientist feature), and 2) it will motivate more people to pursue science as a career.
I hope you enjoy my posts, and please feel free to contact me! I'd be happy to hear from any readers :)
ResearchFrom marine fishes to micro fungi, Neandertals to lemurs, conch to lizards, to the gut microbiome, and all of the measurements, coding, field work, lab work, and presentations in between.

Sci CommPart of being a scientist is learning how to effectively communicate your research to all kinds of audiences. This blog will feature experiences I've had, as well as #SullyAsksAScientist.

LifeHere's what makes me Me :)
I'll also use this section to talk about my life as a grad student and biologist. We'll chat about food, family, and friends. Oh, and also cats (see cat tax below). |
