Hello friends, and welcome back :) Blogging got a little slow for me over the summer, but I am back on schedule! I'll be playing catch up for a bit, but wanted to celebrate this special day with you live and in color. Let's go!!!
My 27th trip around the Sun begins today! Beyoncé will be joining me on my annual expedition, and we'll also be celebrating the births of The Price Is Right and Google. Then my little sister turns 23 tomorrow, which for some reason makes me feel older than my own birthday today, but human brains can be strange like that. |
Dan and I drove to New York City late last night, and we're going to see Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Parts 1 and 2 later today :DDD Tomorrow we'll drive down to NJ to spend a few days celebrating mine, my sister's, and my dad's September birthdays, and then we'll dive right back into full-time grad student life. I'm excited for all of it :)
But today I wanted to share with you a tradition (of sorts) that I started on my 25th birthday. I used to journal all the time as I grew up, but largely in fits and spurts. I never was able to get into a serious routine, even though I liked the act of putting down some of my thoughts every day. Two years ago I decided to try a Q&A-A-Day writing prompt: each day you are presented with a question, and you can answer it however you like.
I'd originally bought a hardcover book with these questions, but then Dan wanted to join in the journaling too. I typed all of the questions into a shared Google Doc, and now we can follow our answers and their changes through the years. Some of the questions aren't super interesting, but I've always loved thinking about September 4's in particular:
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In 2017, I wrote, Best case scenario: with my PhD in hand, settled in a nice home with a job I can have as a lifelong career. Maybe we’ll be married/parents by then too...
In 2018, Same as before, but I’ll tack on physically fit and staying that way as well.
And this year, Same as last year, and I’ll add harvesting the goodies from our massive garden with Dan while we smile at the cats in their sunlit catio.

I love thinking about the future. There's just so much potential for where you can take your life from this point onwards. Ignore the cheesiness and embrace the coming times!
If you'd like to start a Q&A-A-Day of your own, here's our list of questions. Feel free to copy the entire thing and change it to fit you and whomever you might decide to share your answers with. I hope you enjoy it as much and Dan and I do. Cheers!
