On my main "Research" page I mentioned that I would like to use my time in grad school to study the lemurs of Madagascar. That being said, I don't need to travel all the way past mainland Africa to visit some lemurs. In North Carolina, there is a pretty magical place called the Duke Lemur Center that houses over 250 lemurs across 21 different species! Remember the PBS show Zoboomafoo? Well it was filmed at the DLC, with Jovian the Coquerel's sifaka as the star (see right). |

PJ, being the super cool advisor that he is, arranged a trip for myself and two others to the DLC earlier this July while he was away in Uganda. David Villalta, a fellow grad student in PJ's lab, is in the Ecology program here at PSU and hopes to study aye-ayes for his dissertation. Kyle Hilliard is Wildlife and Fisheries undergraduate who works with David and is interested in primate sexual selection.
So down to Duke we drove, but I don't think we were at all prepared for just how amazing the DLC is. Below I've posted an album of pictures dedicated to the Center itself. Soon I'll make another post about the lemurs we got to see and the Division of Fossil Primates. I shall sign off here by saying this: if you ever get an opportunity to visit, GO FOR IT! It is completely worth it :)
