We’ve already entered October and I am having a blast TAing! Let me start off by showing you the facilities. Mueller (AKA the Bio Building) had this floor completely redone, and it is absolutely gorgeous. The TAs and LAs (Lecture Assistants) now have a big beautiful home called “The Biome” where we can meet with our students to discuss both lecture and lab materials. I’ve got two office hours in here, and there are plenty of windows, whiteboards, and chairs/tables for all. I’ve even noticed students coming here to work, that way any questions they might have can be instantly answered by whoever happens to be here. It’s a great environment, and undergraduate me really envies this homey area.
The labs are amazing as well. Each comes equipped with a Smartboard, plenty of tabletop surface at the benches and along the edges of the room, and a ton of storage space for anything from microscopes to backpacks. The first week of lab we had to go without computers, but I learned that you could plug a flash drive directly into the Smartboard and show your presentation via individual pictures. Now we have computer access and every week things run a bit more smoothly. The lab coordinator, Dianne, is a superhero and I know we wouldn’t survive the semester, especially the first few weeks, without her.
