Hey guys! If you've been following along with my blog you might've noticed that I didn't make a post for the last two weeks. If you didn't notice, then please ignore my apology; if you did notice, then know that I am sorry for not keeping my weekly post promise, but also know that I had a very good reason: I was in NOLA :D
NOLA = New Orleans, Louisiana. The "Big Easy", home to Mardi Gras, amazing local cuisine, voodoo, swamps, and fancy balcony things that are super pretty (see right). I had gone down for the 86th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists (AAPAs). See my "Research Updates" blog post for more details about the conference, and my 5-minute talk, and my props :) |
I went down to NOLA last Wednesday, April 19th and was originally planning on leaving after the conference ended on Saturday the 22nd. But my dad had the brilliant idea to fly down with my little sister and join me for a mini vacation till this past Tuesday.
One of the things that I was most excited for in NOLA was the food. I attempted to try every dish that I'd heard of as having something to do with this sea and soul food hotspot, most of which are featured in the slideshow below. Some of my tastings occurred before Dad and Hayl came down, and two images below aren't even in Louisiana, but all of them were absolutely delicious (except maybe the raw oysters...).
Our family vacation had two other major highlights: reuniting with family members we hadn't seen in 20+ years (during which we rode in the best Uber ever) and an airboat swamp tour. If you ever find yourself in Louisiana, get yourself to Lafitte and on an airboat because if I ever had the opportunity I'd probably buy one. THEY ARE SO MUCH FUN TO RIDE IN!!! |
