Welcome to the latest Sully Asks A Scientist (SAAS for short)! This one features one of my post-doc buddies, Kathryn. She's currently working with both my lab and one of my committee member's groups, and I think I speak on behalf of all lab meeting participants when I say that having Kathryn there makes the entire proceeding a whole lot funnier :)
As a quick reminder, these SAAS guest blog posts will feature a Q&A format that will hopefully allow you to learn about who these scientists are as people. I'll also be sure to incorporate plenty of links for you to have quick and easy access to social media profiles, websites, articles, and other means of finding out more about each guest's research. Please leave some comments and let me know if there are other questions you'd like answered, or scientists you'd be keen on reading about. Enjoy!

What is your elevator pitch? AKA what do you do/study?
I’m an evolutionary ecologist interested in introductions, range expansions, and biological invasions. I want to know what happens when humans move species around all willy nilly. How do some species manage to succeed in the face of near-total environmental change? What are the impacts of human selection, intentional or unintentional, in ‘natural’ populations? We need to understand what happens if we want biodiversity and agricultural production to persist, because we move species around all the time. And even when we aren’t moving them, we are changing the environments in which they live.
Invasive species are the Moriarty to my Sherlock Holmes.
